Dou Suru Gokuu!! Senritsu no Buyon
What Will You Do, Gokuu!! The Horrible Buyon
USA 02/26/2002 Horrifying Buyon

Upon reaching the control room of Muscle Tower, General White opens a trap door that drops Gokuu and Hatchan into the hidden fifth floor, where a giant monster named Buyon lay.

Thoughts
So much naughty naughty smoking. I hear guns may be considered dangerous and controversial, too. Poor White just couldn't get a break. But I remember this one being a real chore to work on...
Names/Terms
Buyon retains his name. (Which is something I hear Viz's adaptation of the manga did not do, so props to FUNi.)

Alteration
In the recap, after Gokuu dodges those kunai(?) that Murasaki throws, a 4 second clip of Murasaki putting his dirty photo in his shirt and throwing the smoke bomb is replaced with a 4 second clip of Murasaki jumping through the trees and Gokuu pulling the tacks from his shoes.
Cut
(7 seconds) After Hatchan says he's scared and Gokuu prepares to attack Buyon, a shot of White in the control room is cut, since he has a smoking pipe in his hand.
Cut
(11 seconds) After Gokuu says his punches and kicks are ineffective, a clip of White smoking the pipe, and Gokuu preparing to attack again, is cut.
Alteration
In the shot of White just after Buyon starts electrocuting Gokuu, his pipe is painted out.
Alteration
In the shot of White just before Buyon attacks Gokuu with his tongue, his pipe is painted out again.
Alteration
In the shot of White just after Buyon inhales Gokuu, his pipe is painted out a third time.
Cut
(4 seconds) After Gokuu escapes and says Buyon almost gulped him down, a clip of White in the control room (with his pipe in his hand) is cut.
Alteration
In the shot of White when Gokuu is chanting "Kamehameha", his pipe is, well, you know... For the fourth and final time in this episode, too.
Alteration
After White points the gun, a 19 second clip of the gun firing, Gokuu getting mad, White getting scared, and then Gokuu getting even more mad, is replaced with a 3 second clip of the gun in White's hand and him pulling back in fear.
Cut
(1 second) After Hatchan climbs up to the control room, a shot of the gun in White's hand as he's pulling back in fear is cut. I don't think it was so much because he had the gun in his hand as it was for editing continuity. This is what replaced the last edit, and so he'd already pulled the gun back in fear once. And then as Hatchan's climbing up, White has the gun at his side (in both versions), so I think they tried to make it look as though the gun was still at his side.
